Spiritual devotion ripens into carnal passion for a young temple dancer in Vara: A Blessing. A visually stunning exploration of the cross between spiritual devotion and bodily temptation that incorporates a hypnotic use of traditional Indian dance and music.
Vara: A Blessing. In the lush countryside of a rural Indian Village, a timeless story of forbidden love unfolds. Lila is a carefree girl who is completely devoted to Krishna, Her mother is a master teacher of classical bharatanatyam dance, and a devadasi – a Indian temple dancer wed to a Hindu god.
Vara: A Blessing is the third feature film of Bhutanese filmmaker Khyentse Norbu. His directorial debut, The Cup (1999), became an international sensation after its premiere screening at the Cannes Film Festival’s prestigious Director’s Fortnight. It went on to win critical acclaim and awards at major festivals worldwide, including Sundance, Toronto, and Pusan.
Vara: A Blessing A general rule of thumb for non A-list film festivals: the foreign films will be better than the home-grown product. (There's a reason some films don't win the lottery of distribution beyond bad luck).
